Our Logs
Our timber is sourced from sustainable woodland; well-managed forests help maintain and promote healthy trees.
Benefits of Hardwood
Firewood is classed as hardwood or softwood. Hardwoods are better for burning as they tend to give more heat and less smoke and burn more slowly; this means less creosote, a major cause of many chimney fires.
We only sell hardwood logs.
Moisture Content
Ideally, firewood should have less than 25% moisture content, the lower the better.
When wood is freshly cut it contains a lot of water; by properly splitting, stacking and storing wood much of the water will evaporate.
When the wood reaches a moisture content of less than 30% it will burn properly and release the most heat. Wood with more than a 30% moisture content should not be burned indoors - it is very inefficient and produces acid water vapour (creosote) in your chimney.
